    Summit Dzongri Top

We start our day early to witness a magical sunrise from Dzongri Top. The climb to the top is short but steep, and as the first rays of sunlight touch the snow-covered peaks, we’re treated to an extraordinary sight. Kanchenjunga, the highest peak in the region, is the first to catch the light, turning into a glowing golden beauty. Soon, the other majestic peaks like Pandim, Tenchenkhang, Jupono, and Kabru join in, all bathed in the early morning glow. It’s a moment of pure awe and a sight that will stay with you forever.

After soaking in the breathtaking views and capturing the perfect moments with your camera, we descend back to the Dzongri campsite. The descent is peaceful, and upon reaching, a hot, delicious breakfast awaits to energize us for the rest of the day.

    Explore Dzongri La

After breakfast, we embark on a short trek to Dzongri La, a high meadow surrounded by towering, sacred peaks that are worshipped by the local people. The views here are simply incredible, offering sweeping panoramas of the Kanchenjunga range, along with other majestic peaks. This is the entrance to the Oklathang Valley, known for its spiritual significance and natural beauty. The atmosphere is serene, and the place feels sacred, with the tall, wind-blown prayer flags fluttering in the breeze. Take your time to absorb the peaceful surroundings, snap some photographs, and enjoy the spectacular vistas.

After exploring Dzongri La, we head back to the Dzongri campsite to rest and acclimatize for the next phase of the trek. The rest of the day is all about relaxing, hydrating, and preparing ourselves for the challenging days ahead.

Acclimatization: Its Importance for the Coming Days

Acclimatization is a crucial part of any high-altitude trek, and today’s activities are specifically designed to help our bodies adjust to the reduced oxygen levels at higher altitudes. As we remain at Dzongri for a day, we give our bodies time to adapt, allowing us to build the stamina needed for the more challenging days ahead.

While we rest, our bodies are gradually adjusting to the thinner air, which will help prevent altitude sickness and allow us to tackle higher elevations with ease. Acclimatization helps our bodies increase red blood cell production, improving our oxygen-carrying capacity and reducing the likelihood of fatigue, dizziness, or headaches during the later stages of the trek. It's also a chance for us to gauge how well we’re handling the altitude and make any necessary adjustments before we continue higher.

By staying at Dzongri for an additional day, we’ve not only enjoyed the beauty of this tranquil place but also given ourselves the best chance for a successful summit of Goechala and beyond. With this strategic rest, we’re now better prepared to face the physical demands of the upcoming days, ensuring that our bodies are fully acclimatized and ready for the challenges ahead.

    Schedule for the Day

    • 4:00 AM: Wake up early for the climb to Dzongri Top. Enjoy the chilly morning air and prepare for the summit.
    • 5:20 AM: Summit Dzongri Top. Witness the sunrise and the peaks of Kanchenjunga, Pandim, Tenchenkhang, Jupono, and Kabru glowing in the first light.
    • 7:00 AM: Descend back to the Dzongri campsite. Enjoy breakfast and prepare for the next trek to Dzongri La.
    • 9:00 AM: Trek to Dzongri La. Explore the spiritual and scenic beauty of the entrance to Oklathang Valley.
    • 12:00 PM: Return to Dzongri campsite. Have lunch and take some rest and hydrate for the rest of the day.
    • 1:00 PM: Relax and acclimatize. Enjoy the serenity of Dzongri, reflecting on the views and energy of the day.
    • 6:30 PM: Early dinner and rest for the evening, ready to take on the challenges of the next day.

It’s a day filled with awe-inspiring views, peaceful exploration, and the perfect balance of activity and rest to help you acclimatize for the trek ahead.
